Competitions and Rules
Brunton holds heats of all the NEBA events and the EBU national pairs;  for these the
organisation's rules apply.
Club championships are open only to paid-up Brunton members.
The main club award is the Marathon Pairs.
This competition lasts the whole year (starting April), and every result
a pair scores over the year is included. Even the duff ones. 15
sessions in the year is the minimum qualifying mark, and the highest average
percentage wins. This is then truly the gauge of the club champions.
The Marathon Individual lasts the whole year,
and is based on individual performance. To encourage people to play
occasional games with unknown partners, in this competition the poor results are
dropped. The best 30 positions are counted, and the person with the
best average position wins the cup.
The Hurst Rose Bowl is awarded to the highest pairs
percentage achieved over the course of the year.
The Golding Salver is a one-off event, where to qualify
(as a partnership) you must any time in the previous year come in the top 3
places. Naturally, you will qualify with more than one partner, so the
rule is that the partnership which qualified most times is the one playing in
the final, and if the same number of times, the partnership that qualified
first. In other words, if your most qualified partner has himself
qualified more often with someone else, your partnership is eliminated, leaving
you available to play with your next most qualified partner ... etc.
The Steve Ray Cups is a one-off event for mixed pairs.
There is also the Manny Silver Trophy for same sex pairs.
The Captain's Cup is a one-off event for multiple teams of four.
The Gerald Baker Quaich is a one-off event for pairs of
whom neither player has yet won 10 green points. Overqualified pairs play
at the same time for the Ian Spoors Quaich.
